SUMIT DUTTA
Sumit Dutta is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of ASEAN Business Partners. Prior to this, Sumit spent 26 years working for HSBC, one of the biggest banks in the world, in countries including Indonesia, Vietnam, USA, Hongkong and India.
Most recently, Sumit was the Country Manager and Chief Executive Officer for HSBC in Indonesia from 2014-2019. HSBC is one of the biggest and most profitable banks in Indonesia with profits of $220M in 2019, with 5000 employees in over 100 branches in 30 cities.
Prior to Indonesia, Sumit was Chief Executive Officer for HSBC Bank (Vietnam) Ltd, rated the “Best Foreign Bank in Vietnam” by Finance Asia, and also worked as Executive Director of Techcombank, the largest privately owned bank in Vietnam.
Prior to Vietnam, Sumit worked for HSBC in New York, USA in various roles including Global Head of e-Business, Head of Product Management and Head of Sales Management, and before that in Hongkong and India for HSBC and ANZ Bank.
Sumit holds an MBA in Marketing and Finance and is a Bachelor of Civil Engineering. He enjoys playing squash, tennis, badminton and golf, and is a runner, cyclist and motorcyclist.
VIKASH BENGANI
Vikash Bengani is the Chief Operating Officer and Head of Industry Research at Asean Business Partners. Vikash has over two decades of experience across Asia’s leading financial markets. He has held senior positions at ICICI Bank, Citibank, Indea Capital (a hedge fund) and EIS Global (a family office).
He has worked in diverse roles including trading in equities, commodities and derivatives markets, streamlining operationally complex back offices for securities processing and financial modeling and forecasting of company performance as an equity research analyst. He has also worked as a project finance and structured debt specialist at a Development Finance Institution.
Vikash is a qualified Chartered Accountant from India and a Chartered Financial Analyst from AIMR, USA. He also holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Hons) degree.
Vikash enjoys outdoor activities and travelling and when he is not crunching numbers, he is capturing and preserving memories using his Canon SLR camera. He is an avid tennis enthusiast and a great fan of Novak Djokovic.
ISHAAN MALIK
Ishaan Malik is our Head of Client Relations for ASEAN and Australia. Through his prior experience at TCG-Digital, Ernst & Young, and Clearwater Capital Partners Ishaan has gained experience in Sales, Marketing and Risk across a diverse set of industries, thus affording him an eclectic knowledge base to support our clients’ aspirations in ASEAN.
Ishaan will also be assisting in our Strategy and Planning function, to ensure that our activities across ASEAN are seamlessly coordinated across the various markets that our clients are present in. Ishaan has been entrusted with the responsibility to ensure that our client’s needs and vision are reflected in the market entry strategies that we structure.
Ishaan graduated Cum Laude from Singapore Management University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics
A theatre and cricket enthusiast, Ishaan likes to spend much of his free time either on stage or on the cricket field.
TRIPUDJO SOEMARKO
Tripudjo Soemarko is the Head of Business Development of our Indonesian subsidiary, Indonesia Business Partners. He is a career banker with over 30 years of work experience at HSBC. Over the course of his illustrious career Tripudjo served the bank in various capacities, most recently as Director of Strategy and Business Implementation. In this role, he was responsible for conceptualising and implementing HSBC’s strategy in Indonesia and also collaborating with all business and functional lines to grow HSBC’s business in Indonesia.
This included being responsible for HSBC’s engagement with local government, business chambers, the ASEAN secretariat and other organisations. Tripudjo has strong linkages with the local government and local business chambers of commerce, and his extensive network with key stakeholders in local planning and administration gives him unique insight into what the government is doing as well as what it is planning to do.
Tripudjo’s strong network with senior members in the government and business community and his insights and knowledge of the market makes him an invaluable asset for all our clients wanting to enter the Indonesian market or intending to expand their business in Indonesia.
Tripudjo holds a Bachelor of Business degree in Finance and an MBA from Western Illinois University, USA.
JETI MULIAWAN
Jeti Muliawan is the Chief Operating Officer of our Indonesian subsidiary, Indonesia Business Partners. An ace banker, she had held several leadership positions across functions over a 30-year career at HSBC Indonesia, one of the country’s largest international banks with over 80 branches and 4000 employees in Indonesia.
Most recently she served as Senior Vice President and Head in the Financial Crime Remediation area in HSBC, where she was responsible for validating controls to protect against money laundering and to initiate AB&C (Anti Bribery and Corruption) measures. This experience makes Jeti one of the leading experts in the critical area of financial crime mitigation in Asia.
Jeti is a process and control expert, and has worked in senior leadership roles in the course of her 30 year career in internal audit, operational risks management and internal control reviews. This experience in a high growth and dynamic market like Indonesia puts Jeti in a unique position to help guide global customers on how to manage operational and reputational risk issues in emerging markets.
Jeti holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science and a Masters of Business Administration from Texas A&M University. She is a member of the Institute of Internal Auditors.
When she’s not working, Jeti can be found working out at the gym and practising line-dancing with her friends.
ALFONS LINGGAR
Alfons Linggar is a seasoned banker and a Commissioner in Indonesia Business Partners. Alfons has an experience of over 30 years working in many senior roles in HSBC Indonesia, the most recent being SVP and Head of Operations for HSBC’s large business in Indonesia with over 500 staff reporting into him.
Over the course of his diverse career Alfons has notably also served as Head of Financial Crime Compliance, SVP – Service Delivery, SVP – Operations and Processes, and SVP – Network Service Centre. Alfons was also responsible for spearheading the establishment of Financial Crime Compliance in HSBC Indonesia.
Alfons’s experience in process management, operations and optimizing efficiencies in transaction processing makes him one of the leading experts in this space in emerging markets in Asia.
Alfons holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Information Systems from Azusa Pacific University, and an MBA from California State University, San Bernardino.
JUN DE DIOS
Jun De Dios is our Group Head-Marketing and he is also our Country Manager for Philippines. Jun was the CEO for AKZO Nobel in Vietnam from 2008-13, and then CEO in Indonesia, before being appointed General Manager for Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines, PNG, AUS and NZ, Pacific Islands over the period 2013-2019.
Jun has extensive experience in Asia across a range of industries and companies. He began his career with P&G Philippines as a Sales Section Manager in 1986. After a successful 8-year stint with P&G, Jun moved to Mead Johnson Nutritionals as Sales Director. By 2000 Jun was appointed General Manager in Mead Johnson, a role he held across many of the company’s key markets in Asia. Jun then joined the Dutch Mill Group of Companies as Managing Director for ASEAN, after which he moved to AkzoNobel in 2008.
Jun is a single handicapper golfer and has practiced with the Philippines national team.
THAO NGUYEN
Thao Nguyen is our Country Manager for Vietnam. She is a dynamic leader with over 27 years of experience working for both global and local banks in Vietnam. Over the course of her career Thao has held senior leadership roles at HSBC, Citibank, ANZ, Techcombank and VIB
By virtue of her work at these prestigious institutions, Thao has established close working relationships with Vietnam’s State Bank, Ministry of Finance, State Securities Commission and other regulatory bodies.
Prior to joining ASEAN Business Partners, Thao served as SVP – Corporate and Institutional Banking at VIB, working directly with foreign investors in Vietnam. Thao’s past work experiences include serving as Country Head of Financial Institutions at Citibank Vietnam and General Manager of ANZ Vietnam.
Thao’s 27 years of experience working with hiqh-quality, successful Vietnamese enterprises and her strong network with the government and business leaders in Vietnam puts her in a unique position to help guide new entrants into the Vietnamese market.
Thao holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Languages from Hanoi University and an MBA from RMIT University Vietnam. A fitness enthusiast, Thao, is a big fan of yoga, gym and golf. She also enjoys listening to music and visiting art galleries to see the works of her favourite artists.
KAY THI
Kay Thi is our Country Manager for Myanmar. She was born in Myanmar and has studied and worked in both the UK and Myanmar. Kay Thi has worked in different industries including the garments industry in the course of an illustrious career spanning over 20 years and 2 continents in different disciplines including Operations, Human Resources, Finance, Administration and others.
Kay Thi’s strong professional network encompassing business partners and government leaders in Myanmar and her knowledge of the local economy and business practices makes her the ideal go to person for anyone looking to invest in Myanmar or intending to grow their existing franchise in Myanmar.
Kay holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Dagon University, an Advanced Diploma in Business Administration from the Association of Business Executives UK, and an MBA from the University of Wales.
TONY TURNER
Tony Turner is our Head of Client Relations for UK and European Union. Tony is a seasoned banker with a wealth of diverse global experience. He offers deep knowledge of the ASEAN region having served for 7 years (2010-17) as CEO of the HSBC subsidiary in Indonesia (Bank Ekonomi), leading a bank having 80 branches and 2000 employees.
Tony worked for HSBC Group for 35 years from 1982-2017, serving in 12 countries in Asia (particularly Hong Kong), the Middle East and South America; and since 2008 as CEO successively of 4 different HSBC subsidiaries in Asia. More recently he has served in non-executive roles as Director of PT Bank HSBC Indonesia (2017-18); and currently as Director of Banque Havilland S.A., Luxembourg; and Chairman of their Swiss subsidiary Private Bank (both since 2018).
He holds a Bachelor of Science (Hons) degree in Financial Services (The London Institute of Banking and Finance) and also Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in History and Politics from the University of Exeter; thus balancing analytical financial skills with a liberal humanities academic background.
Tony’s wide professional experience covers corporate banking, private banking, and ASEAN trade and commerce.
Tony is married with 3 grown-up children, and now lives in London. When he isn’t on Zoom calls with clients he plays contract bridge, tennis and golf. Once COVID allows, he hopes to resume his regular trips to Asia, and to Marylebone Cricket Club (Lord’s), London.
RAJ GHOSH
Raj Ghosh is our Head of Client Relations for USA and Canada. Raj is a veteran in the fast food industry, having nearly 25 years of experience in the US fast food market. A career entrepreneur, Raj started his first business in 1996, and with his innovative sales and marketing skills he successfully grew annual sales by more than 100% within 4 years. Since then he has expanded his business and opened more stores that have been even more successful.
Raj has been a member of Pretzelmaker’s Advisory Council since 1999, and his stores have been consistently placed among the top 10 performing Pretzel stores since 2000, including being No 1 & 2 in some years.
Outside of his own entrepreneurial pursuits, Raj has also mentored many other business owners and guided them on how to grow their business and manage their teams.
Raj’s experience with dynamic and fast-growing businesses in the USA over the last 25 years, and his own Asian roots, put him in a great position to be a trusted advisor to US and Canadian corporates on how to succeed in Asia.
Raj holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Connecticut.
Raj lives in Connecticut with his wife and two sons. He is an avid soccer player and has coached youth teams at different clubs for over 10 years. He continues to eagerly await the day the US men’s team will win the World Cup.
